Release notes for 11.1.X

The Atlassian Jira Align team is pleased to announce Jira Align v.11.1

Last updated: August 30, 2024 to include notice that the delivered suggestion for Jira sprint logic has been rolled back.

Coming soon

Reminder: Risk ROAM new experience takes over in 11.2

The new experience of the risk ROAM report will become default and the old experience will be removed as of the 11.2.X release, which first ships to test environments on August 2, 2024.

API: Milestones endpoint replacement in 11.4

As part of the recent release of the Milestones tab, we will be replacing the Milestones API endpoint with the Objectives endpoint. The milestones endpoint will no longer be available as of the 11.4.X release, which first ships to test environments on September 27, 2024. All endpoint functionality will remain the same and provide the same data. The only change will be the naming and URL. Once version 11.4.X is available in your environment, all users will need to utilize the objectives endpoint.

Enhancements and features

These features for 11.1 were released to environments on the continuous release track on July 12, 2024, in version 11.1.0. The features were then released to environments on the bundled release track on July 19, 2024, in version 11.1.1.

New navigation transition complete

As outlined in our community article, the old navigation experience has been removed from all remaining Jira Align instances. Below is a list of enablement materials for new navigation:

  • Jira Align Help includes new navigation paths on individual articles and overviews of the homepage and how to use the new navigation:
    • The navigation overview article details the new menus, includes a short walkthrough video that can be shared with users, and includes a list of new navigation paths for all pages.
    • The homepage overview article details the new homepage and includes a short walkthrough video.
  • Our in-product training videos (training simulations) were updated with the 10.128.X release and are available to all users.
  • Cloud environments have new, in-product guides to help onboard existing and new users to the new navigation menus and homepage.
  • Atlassian training materials have been updated and are available through our Advisory Services team.

As a reminder, versions of reports that could only be accessed in the old navigation experience are now no longer available.

Temporary portfolio and program room landing page

With the removal of the old navigation experience, we’re introducing a new portfolio and program room landing page for a subset of environments still experiencing room performance issues. This page allows you to immediately navigate to a new page from the sidebar menu, without waiting for the room to load.

If enabled, you’ll see the new landing page when navigating to a room from the top navigation bar:

When navigating to a room from the Recent rooms section of the homepage, starred page menus, the sidebar menu, or a direct link, the landing page will not display. Users will see the expected portfolio or program room.

We’ll remove this temporary page when room loading performance is further improved.

Capacity: New read-only permission

As part of fixing JIRAALIGN-6085, we’ve added a new permission toggle to system roles for the capacity page. This new read-only option is available at the portfolio, solution, and program levels.

When switched on, the toggle prevents users from making edits in the capacity plan, while still providing view access. Users with a read-only permission will see a message at the top of the page:

Jira connector: All projects selected indicated when running JQL

We’ve updated the experience when running a JQL query from the Jira integration tab of the Jira connector settings page. Now, when the Include all projects toggle is switched on, the Projects field will be disabled and indicate that all projects were selected with the control above.

Roadmaps: Changes to support longer work item names

For better visibility of lengthy work item names, we’ve made two changes to the roadmaps page:

Padding has been adjusted on the left and right sides of bars, to allow more space to display names and completion percentage indicators for each work item.

A Show identifier in name toggle has been added to the Other options tab of the Roadmap settings menu, which is accessed by selecting the View configuration button from the top of the page. This new toggle is enabled by default. Switch off the toggle to hide unique IDs inside bars, making more space for each work item’s name.

Roadmaps: Clarifying text for list of objectives

To provide better clarity, we’ve added new messaging to the Milestones and objectives settings menu of the roadmaps page. Additional text now states that the list of objectives displayed in the menu is filtered by the same team and work item level filters used by the page.

Updated helper text when filtering global grids by process step

To better indicate necessary navigation, we’ve updated the helper text displayed when attempting to filter a global grid page by process step. If you access a grid page of work items such as epics from the Items menu in the top navigation bar, no portfolio, solution, or program context has been set. Without this context, you can’t filter by process steps, as their parent process flows are associated with one of these team levels.

Now, accessing the process step filter from the Apply filters menu will show a message instructing you to first navigate to the grid of work items from a portfolio, solution, or program.

Performance improvements

Improved response times when querying release vehicles

We’ve optimized GET calls for release vehicles in the API to provide faster response times. After adjusting how our systems perform lookups and batch results, we’re seeing a reduction in latency of up to 98%.

Delivered suggestions

Jira connector: Update a story’s sprint after move to unassigned backlog

We’ve delivered suggestion JIRAALIGN-4006 by updating how a story respects the unassigned backlog. Previously, moving a story in Jira Align to the unassigned backlog would result in the story retaining its sprint selection in Jira. This could cause an overwrite issue if a sync from Jira to Jira Align took place later. Now, the story in Jira will also be moved to the Jira backlog, matching the status in Jira Align.

Note: This enhancement has been disabled in the 11.2.X and 11.3.X releases due to a rare scenario that can unintentionally remove stories and defects from Jira sprints after deleting sprints in Jira Align. Review our full announcement for details

Internally-found issues

We’ve corrected the following bugs that were discovered while investigating related issues, building new enhancements, and performing maintenance:

11.1.0

  • HTML tags were displayed in audit logs when changes were made to a custom text area custom field.
  • Users that lacked the proper permissions would see a blank page when accessing program increment or release vehicle views of the roadmaps page. Users will now see the correct “You need more access” error page.
  • Inside the program increment view of the roadmaps page, the count of programs and teams were incorrect.
  • Tags were not being copied after splitting a story.
  • Some column headers in status reports were being truncated incorrectly.
  • Progress bars on the strategic allocation driver report were showing incorrect totals when accessing a portfolio set to use team weeks estimation.

11.1.1

  • The program board was timing out for some users attempting to access large datasets.
