Configure Enterprise Insights with the setup wizard

Once you’ve purchased Enterprise Insights and received notification that your instance has been provisioned, you can use the setup wizard to quickly take you through the required steps of creating firewall rules and user accounts.

On this page:

Note: The setup wizard is intended for standard connections between your corporate network tools and Jira Align multi-tenant cloud or virtual private cloud (VPC) environments. Other cloud connection methods such as virtual private network (VPN) for VPC environments, data file retrieval through Amazon Web Services, and Atlassian Analytics are available with unique setup processes. For self-hosted Jira Align environments, review our setup guide.

Requirements

To access the setup wizard and configure Enterprise Insights, you’ll need the following:

  • Purchase of an Enterprise Insights instance
  • Port 1443 on your network open to outbound traffic
  • Known IP addresses and/or ranges that you want to access EI from
  • An Azure presence on your network, to use Microsoft Entra authentication

Review connectivity requirements for Enterprise Insights for more details.

Launch the wizard

The setup wizard displays the first time you access Enterprise Insights settings from Admin > Setup > Enterprise Insights.

Select Get started to continue through the steps.

To relaunch the wizard after it has been closed, access Enterprise Insights settings and select Launch setup wizard from the three dots menu (…) in the upper-right corner of the page.

Create firewall rules

Firewall rules specify which IP addresses and ranges can access your Enterprise Insights instance. If no rules are created, your network will not be able to connect to EI.

Notes:

  • If you are using the VPN for VPC environments connection or data file retrieval options, you can skip this step and move on to creating user accounts.
  • Only known IP addresses on your network should be included in firewall rules. To confirm an IP address belongs to your corporate network, look it up at the American Registry for Internet Numbers.

To create a new rule:

  1. Select the Add firewall rule button.
  2. In the settings panel that displays, enter a unique Rule name, a Start IP address, and an End IP address.
    1. To create a rule for a single IP address, enter the same IP value in the start and end fields.
    2. To create a rule for an IP address range, enter the beginning of the range in the start field and the end of the range in the end field.
  3. Select the Save button. You’ll see the rule listed in the table of firewall rules.

If you need to delete a new rule, select the Delete link to the right of the rule’s row.

Once you’ve created at least one firewall rule, select Continue to move on to the next step. You can return to the wizard or the Enterprise Insights settings page to create additional rules or delete rules that are no longer needed.

Create user accounts

User accounts specify which users can authenticate with your Enterprise Insights instance. User accounts are not directly associated with Jira Align users. User accounts utilize Microsoft Entra authentication, which enforces your SSO and multi-factor authentication when connecting to EI.

To create a Microsoft Entra user account:

  1. Select the Add user button.
  2. In the Email field, enter an email address for the user you want to invite.
  3. Select the Save button. You’ll see the user listed in the table of user accounts.
  4. The user will receive an email invite with a link to connect to your Azure presence. Once the link is selected, the user account will be authorized to access your EI instance.

If you need to delete a new user account, select the Delete link to the right of the user’s row. Note that it may take several hours for Microsoft Entra to remove the user from Azure.

Once you’ve created at least one user account, select Continue to move on to the next step. You can return to the wizard or the Enterprise Insights settings page to create additional users or delete users that are no longer needed.

Verify your connection

Once you’ve created firewall rules and user accounts, you’ll see the following screen:

Use the displayed server name and database name, along with one of the new user accounts to test your connection to your Enterprise Insights instance. We recommend using an SQL code editor for this test. Review connect to Enterprise Insights with Microsoft Entra authentication for additional examples.

If you are unable to connect to EI, review our troubleshooting article.
