Changes to on-premise installation and upgrade procedures in 10.130.X

In version 10.130.2, which will be available for download on March 6, 2024, the backoffice service that on-premise environments use will be upgraded from .NET framework 4.6.2 to .NET 6.0. This update provides some infrastructure advantages, but there are no changes to existing functionality. Installation and upgrade processes will be modified as a result.

Benefits of the change

Using .NET 6.0 allows components like libraries to be self-contained. When we provide new Jira Align on-premise versions, we can update libraries and proactively apply patches for security vulnerabilities, without requiring you to make manual changes or updates.

Changes to installation and upgrade procedures

To support .NET 6.0, there are some changes to be aware of when installing a new on-premise instance, or upgrading beyond version 10.129.X. For existing installs, some renaming and additions will be required in the configuration files.

We’re updating the Jira Align self-hosted guide documentation to account for these new procedures. Please see the 10.130.X guide for full details, which will be available when we release Jira Align cloud version 10.130.0 on February 16, 2024.

Below is a summary of changes to installation and upgrade practices:

  • Installation and uninstallation of the backoffice service will utilize batch files, instead of specific executable commands.
    • Upgrading an existing instance will require using the current uninstall command, and then using the new install command.
  • The main config file now has a .dll file extension instead of .exe. The name of your config file will need to be updated.
    • Two sections of config are no longer needed. They may be commented-out or deleted.
  • The config file used to control mail settings will need to be updated, adding a new section.
