With the estimation games, you can use points or other sizing methods to compare the required effort to deliver a story. As an example, this topic describes the level of effort poker, which is used to set the level of effort it takes a team to complete a story.
There are two types of the level of effort poker:
- Select Stories. Select this type to estimate stories from any sprint, including the Unassigned Backlog.
- Play Effort Game. Select this type to estimate stories already assigned to your selected team and sprint.
Start a level of effort poker game from the meetings page:
- Select Teams in the top navigation bar and select the team you want to view information about.
- On the sidebar, select Team meetings in the list of page options.
To start the level of effort poker:
- On the meetings page, select Estimations in the upper-left corner.
- Select a PI, a program, a team, and a sprint from the corresponding drop-down menus.
- To estimate stories from any sprint, including the Unassigned Backlog, select the necessary stories from the corresponding drop-down menu, and then click Select Stories.
- To estimate stories already assigned to your selected team and sprint, select Play Effort Game.
The person who starts the level of effort game is called a dealer. The dealer has special rights in the game:
- Select a story from the list on the right.
- Set pass for players by selecting Pass above a user's photo.
- Set the final level of effort by selecting Final above the card with the necessary number.
- Put a story to a repeated votw if the consensus was not reached by selecting Play Again on the table.
- Save the voting by selecting Save It on the table.
To play the level of effort poker:
- Select Teams in the top navigation bar and select the team you want to view information about.
- On the sidebar, select More items in the list of page options.
- Select Estimation; the estimation page displays.
- On the estimation page, under Level of Effort Poker, select the yellow link with your team's name to start the game. The game's creator will automatically be assigned as its dealer, responsible for running the game.
- The game begins and other team members may join it. During the game, the dealer role may be passed at any time to another team member attending the game. To pass the role, select the Pass Dealer Role button in the top-right, and then select the name of the team member in the participant list that appears.
- When the dealer selects a story, discuss the story with your teammates, and then vote with the cards at the bottom of the page or select the Pass button.
Note: You can view assumptions, details of the story, discussions related to the story, or acceptance criteria by selecting the corresponding button on the top of the table. - To exit the game, select the door icon in the upper-right corner of the page.
